Marianna Bakker set up a project to turn the railway bridge in Nijmegen into a landmark using energy efficient lighting systems and power generated locally by water, wind or any other sustainable form. She asked me for assistance with this project as seen I was designing the sustainable energy for the new city island during the time of the start - up and because I was very interested in turning the bridge into a sustainable landmark.

We continued the project by participating in the

Project - weak at the HAN University of applied sciences where students from the engineering department got the chance top support us in our project and learn from this experience how it would be to work for a company or an client.

We were very pleased with the result of the research done by the students adding new ideas to the project and more grounded research such as the effect of energy efficient lighting, the financial saving and the impact on the local community. Later these results would be presented to the city of Nijmegen.

At the end of the project - weak the city changed the color of the lighting to pink for the bicycle race Giro di Italia which started in Nijmegen. This was for me, Marianna and the students amazing to see the results of our ideas put to the test.
